Last week I was really lucky and got invited to the River Island Spring/Summer 2017 Press Day. It was my first press day with River Island so I was really intrigued as to what it would be like. I was also excited to see what River Island has in store for the season.
We were greeted with doughnuts and even tempted with a Mai Tai on arrival (it was 2pm somewhere right?) We were then invited to view the collection. There were a number of different themes running throughout, from feminine frills to embossed jackets. Spring /Summer at RI is shaping up to be a good one.
The first trend I noticed was Candy Colours. This came mainly in the form of pink, from pastels to shocking bright pinks. RI seem to be taking inspiration from Fendi, Chloe and Celine. This fed into the feminine with frills on frills on frills. This style was mixed with harsh stripes to give a preppy vibe, think Elle Woods, Legally Blonde.
The second trend that stood out was Feminine Punk. I have to say, I am obsessed with this trend. It’s all about bringing out your inner Johnny Rotten but not being afraid to wear a skirt or a pussy bow while doing it! This trend is all about biker jackets that come as a co-ord with cutesy skirts and floral embroidered denims.
Embroidery was a recurring theme actually, making its way onto jackets and skirts as well. This trend has been seen all over the catwalk from designers like Marc Jacobs and Loewe.
Of course it wouldn’t be a Spring/Summer launch without some swimwear and while I stood there thinking about my bikini bod in training, I was swept away to Ibiza for this outrageously exciting summer collection. Never ones to shy away from a fun trend, RI have taken the slider to a whole new level with multi coloured fur! Maybe not for everyone but I am definitely convinced.
Taking inspiration from Gucci and Armani there was also a lot of sequin and sparkle dotted throughout the collection.
The Menswear collection was all about pastels and muted tones with baby pink chinos and baby blue cotton shirts.
We left with a goodie bag and a gift card for RI which I am more than excited to spend!
Hope you enjoyed this post.
Until next time,
